The Poetry of Juanita Tice Paulino 2000-2008

Juanita Paulino was born Juanita Kathryn Tice in Oshawa Ontario, Canada the eldest daughter of English and Irish parents. She grew up in a small community, close by named Bowmanville. Her father and mother worked in the surrounding area ; her mother being a Registered Nurse and her father worked as a Machinist for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Canada. Juanita remembers her father, coming home so tired and allergic to the rubber in the machine shop, as she looked across from him while sitting at the kitchen table. "His elbows and arms would be bleeding with his scratching and exema which looked so sore", she recalled.

Juanita as a child, loved to run. She would run in the forest beside her house, and run in all the picnics and win first prize. If she wasn't running, she was riding her old bike. It was a second-hand bike way too big for her, but she learned how to stay on it and gradually grew into it's compelling size. Hence the poem, My Dear Bike.

She was a bit of a loner and found writing, helped keep her company. In her early years, writing became her solace, but then with working and studying Juanita found she just didn't want to write. She spurned her writing talent and turned her back on it.

“Dad said, in his later years, before he past away, that it was a gift and that I should continue to write, so here I am writing again."
